The Planet

Sky looms, gravity-to-habitat conversion, planet-scale state estimators, Garden Moon

This page defines The Planet, scale 5 of the Living Architecture Lab. Anchored by 10.5281/zenodo.19682245.

At the planetary scale, the lab’s work becomes architectural in the cosmic sense. The sky loom is an orbital tether used as a center point around which to weave a colossal DNA-strand double helix into the sky. The loom weaves garden satellites filled with “just the right chunks of ice, spinning them just so, tuning their orbit, their physical properties, to make them support life.”

Sky looms

A sky loom is a center-point tether plus a weaving operation. The double helix that emerges is both structure and information — the same shape that carries genetic instructions on Earth carries habitats in orbit. DNA at orbital scale.

Garden Moon

The orbital architecture of life-support: a constellation of garden satellites woven by sky looms, each a small habitat with its own ecology. The Moon, as a name, is borrowed; the architecture is original.

Gravity-to-habitat conversion

Earth’s deep mass is mostly inert. If converted into thin, high-surface, high-flow living machinery, the quantity and diversity of producible life is roughly proportional to the ratio of total Earth mass to current crust mass.

Earth’s mass is a manufacturer of habitable surface area.

This is not a claim about practical timelines. It is a claim about the architectural ceiling — what’s possible if substrate engineering operates at the scale the substrate permits.

Planet-scale state estimators

A diagnostic instrument: a planetary-scale system that knows its own state. The macro-ant’s passenger-sensors at the organism scale are the same operation at the planetary scale — distributed sensing aggregating into a coherent state vector for the system as a whole.

Why this scale matters

The planetary scale is not science fiction. It is the long-horizon limit of substrate engineering. Every artifact at the brick scale is a fragment of the planet scale. The lab works simultaneously at all five scales — the bricks now, the planet eventually — because the physics is the same physics.

Status

This scale lives largely in design and theory. It is the architectural framework that organizes the long horizon. The garage lab in the Coachella Valley and the Garden Moon are continuous.
